Local Youth Filmmaker Premieres Documentary on Running for Governor

Local 4-H member and young filmmaker Colin Weber will premiere his latest documentary, “What It’s Like to Run for Governor,” on Thursday, July 10, 2025, at 7:00 p.m. at the First Christian Church in Carthage, Illinois. The event is free and open to the public.

The documentary takes viewers behind the scenes of a gubernatorial campaign of Illinois gubernatorial candidate Darren Bailey and Aaron Del Mar. Rather than focusing on politics or policy, the project explores the work, commitment, travel, and personal sacrifices involved in running a statewide campaign.

Colin created the documentary as part of his 4-H video and filmmaking project work. Through interviews, footage, and storytelling, the film gives viewers a unique perspective into a process many people never get to see firsthand.

“This documentary is not intended to be political,” said Colin. “It’s about understanding what candidates go through while running for office and the amount of work that happens behind the scenes.”

The premiere will include a public showing of the documentary followed by an opportunity for attendees to meet Colin and discuss the filmmaking process. Invitations have also been extended to both Darren Bailey and Aaron Del Mar to attend the event if their schedules allow.

Community members of all ages are encouraged to attend and support local youth achievement, creativity, and storytelling.
