Spring is just around the corner and the birds are beginning to make their nests. On display at the Henderson County Museum is an egg collection with 58 eggs and two nests found between the years of 1888 and 1903. This collection was donated by the late Howard Grigsby of Stronghurst. The eggs are carefully labeled with the name of the animal and the year each egg was found.
The collection includes eggs from: Alligator, Pewee, Turtle, Mountain Quail, Swainson’s Hawk, Cowbird, Grosbeak, Canary, Purple Grackle, Baltimore Oriole, Fly Catcher, Lazuli Bunting, Brown Towhee, Meadow Lark, Morning Dove, Whippoorwill, Killdeer, Catbird, Tanager, Warbler, Linnet, House Wren, Yellow Hammer, Thrasher, Mud Hen and many more.
Interesting Fact: The dates of all eggs in the collection predate Mr. Grigsby’s birthdate so it is uncertain who actually assembled this wonderful collection.
