On display in the Graham One-Room School at the Henderson County Museum is a slate board from the former Belmont School in Bald Bluff Township. The Board was donated by Marjorie and Paul Dreher.
Belmont School History:
1856 - Belmont School District 69 organized.
1857 - One-room school established ½ mile west of the cemetery.
1865 - School moved across the road from the cemetery.
1876 - New school building built.
1897 - Second room added to the new building.
1915 - School burns.
1916 - New brick schoolhouse opens in January.
1960 - Last graduation and school property sold.
1976 - School torn down and a home built on the property.
Fun Fact: Today, across the road from where the Belmont School once stood, stands a lovely memorial display with the original school bell, engraved foundation cornerstones and a beautifully etched stone chronicling the school's history. It's worth the drive through Henderson County's countryside to see!
