Important Information About Permanent Vote By Mail

Beginning August 5, 2026, the Henderson County Clerk’s Office will be required to mail information regarding the Permanent Vote by Mail Program to every registered voter in the county who has not already enrolled in or opted out of the program.

This countywide mailing represents a significant expense to Henderson County taxpayers. 

Before these notices are mailed, we encourage voters to review their voting preferences and determine which option best fits their needs.

What is Permanent Vote by Mail?

Permanent Vote by Mail allows a voter to automatically receive a ballot by mail for every election in which they are eligible to vote. Once enrolled, you do not need to submit a new application before each election.

Many voters find this option convenient because:

• Ballots are delivered directly to their mailbox.

• No additional application is required for future elections.

• Voting can be completed from the comfort of home.

• It provides flexibility for voters with busy schedules, transportation challenges, or health concerns.

Is Permanent Vote by Mail Required?

No. Enrollment in Permanent Vote by Mail is completely voluntary.

If you prefer voting at your polling place on Election Day, or if you simply do not want ballots automatically mailed to you, you may choose to opt out of the program. 

Opting out helps reduce mailing and administrative costs to the county. You can also Early Vote starting 40 days prior to the election in our office on the first floor of the Courthouse M-F 8-4.  We are also open the Saturday prior to the election from 8-12. 

What About those who are Seasonal Residents?

Permanent Vote by Mail may not be the best option for everyone.

If you spend part of the year away from Henderson County and your mailing address changes depending on the season, it may be more practical to request a Vote by Mail ballot before each election rather than automatically receiving ballots throughout the year.

Remember, choosing not to enroll in Permanent Vote by Mail does not prevent you from voting by mail in the future. 

Any eligible voter may still request a Vote by Mail Ballot for individual elections as needed.

You Can Always Change Your Mind

Whether you choose to enroll or opt out today, you may change your preference in the future. The Permanent Vote by Mail program remains available, and voters may sign up at any time.

Act Now and Help Save County Resources

If you already know which option is right for you, we encourage you to take action now. Signing up or opting out before the August mailing will help reduce unnecessary mailings and save taxpayer dollars.
