The Blandinsville-Hire Park District has received a $600,000 grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. Park improvement work is now nearing completion.
Significant progress has already been made. The walking path surrounding the playground area and associated concrete work have been finished.
The pickleball court has been poured and marked, handicapped-accessible parking on the east side of the shelter house has been installed, and reseeding has been completed.
Remaining work includes the installation of new electrical systems, pickleball posts and netting, playground equipment and mulch, as well as a drinking fountain and pet waste station.
The project is expected to be fully completed by the end of June or July of this year. An open house will be held once all work is finished and the park reopens to the public.
