(From the minutes taken by Steven K. Vorhies, City Clerk)
The Dallas City Council held its regular meeting on February 16, at 5:30 p.m. With Mayor Kevin Six absent, Finance Commissioner Peggy Newberry called the meeting to order and presided. Commissioners present were Peggy Newberry, Harold Northup Jr., and Greg Olson. Carole McDowell arrived at 5:39 p.m., while Mayor Six remained absent throughout. Also in attendance were City Clerk Anne Thompson, Mike Clanton, and Police Chief Scott Rosson.
Police Chief Scott Rosson reported that he would be ordering new stickers for Non-Highway Vehicles later that week.
The city clerk, Steven Vorhies, informed the council that the new printer had been delivered and installed the previous Friday.
The council discussed improvements to the Wetlands area walking path. They decided to obtain pricing for seven additional lights to enhance safety and evening use. They also considered pouring another concrete slab to support an additional picnic table in the area.
Conversation turned to the dusk-to-dawn light on the pole in the alley between the city maintenance building and the old ready-mix building.
The light is currently wired to the ready-mix building, which has no active power. The council discussed getting a cost estimate to run an electric line from the maintenance building to the existing light. They also considered the possibility of mounting a separate dusk-to-dawn light directly on the maintenance building.
Resident Mike Clanton brought attention to a broken section of sidewalk near the old high school. He suggested removing the damaged concrete and filling the area with sand and rock.
The council agreed to have the city maintenance worker inspect the location and determine the appropriate repair approach. Clanton also asked about the city’s policy regarding payment for concrete when new sidewalks are installed.
The meeting adjourned at 5:57 p.m. This information was taken from the February 16 minutes approved at the March 2 regular meeting.
The Dallas City Council’s next meeting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on Monday, March 16, at city hall.
