On Monday, February 2nd, the Village of Stronghurst board members heard a report from Water Superintendent Ronnie Gittings that they were still needing to haul water to keep up. They were needing to haul at least two days last week and possibly three to get the water supply back up to 75,000 gallon. He predicts come March and April when the usage demand rises they will need to haul more days. As long as it is above freezing Galesburg will sell them water, otherwise they would need to go to Avon. Gittings also reported that the drain pipe at the water plant had frozen up a couple of times last month. He stated it took Jeff and him 45 minutes to an hour to get them thawed. Also a couple of pits were frozen and one house in town had a water pipe that burst.
The police report included 20 hours worked, 4 service calls, and 10 business checks for the month of January.
Attorney Mariah Wallace reported she had sent a letter to LRS asking the village be released from the garbage contract with them, due to LRS not picking up the trash as they were supposed to. She had not heard back from them yet. If they did not respond in a few days she would set up a meeting with them. Mayor Brendan Schaley said they have several companies that are interested in bidding the garbage pickup.
Janice Smith, head of the zoning committee, said they had looked at the ordinances on what could be done regarding junk accumulation on properties. David Knutstrom had gotten a copy of West Burlington’s ordinance on how they handle the situation and it is similar to the one Stronghurst has. Mayor Schaley will look at the ordinances and it will be discussed later.
A discussion was held regarding the flooring in the clerk’s office which is in need of repair. The decision was to get estimates for new flooring for both the office and the meeting room.
The next board meeting will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, March 2nd. Present were: Mayor Brendan Schaley; Trustees, Mike Bohnenkamp, Janice Smith, Paige Torrance, Amanda Van Arsdale, Mike Swisher, Nathan Harden; Employees, Ronnie Gittings, Brittany Smith, Arbry Vancil, Attorney Mariah Wallace; Guests Dennis Day, David Knutstrom, Randy Jarvis, Shirley Linder
