The La Harpe City Council held its regularly scheduled monthly meeting on January 26 at 7 p.m. Everyone recited the Pledge of Allegiance.
Tim Graves reported a violation notice from the EPA on a radium sample. He wasn’t sure if the lab received the sample, or if it got lost. He reported on lead and copper samples, and 2 out of 20 showed lead.
Stevens thanked the City employees for doing a fine job and working in the extreme cold.
Shumaker reported downed trees at the cemetery. There is an interest in purchasing lots from a private entity past Oak Lane/Drive, and the interested party asked if the City would put in a lane to the property should it be purchased and a house built. The council discussed this issue.
Tim Edwards went over the Police report. City Clerk McPeak gave the council the Statement of Economic Interest sheets to be filled out. Kurt Dittmer will be at the next meeting to present and go over the Johnson Report/Resolution. Treasurer Graves reported a bill for $190.00 to Illinois Rural Water that was not on the treasurer’s report. This is for a conference for Daniel Carpenter to continue his education as needed. Mary Hasten-Reed reported on the IEPA notification, and it will be mailed by cashier check of $6,000.00. She reported the Assignment of Contract for 101 N B Street has been signed.
The Council unanimously approved the treasurer’s report and payment of bills. Adam Donley, the City Auditor, went over the City audit for 2024-25. The Council unanimously approved the Audit
In other old business-for discussion only:
Clover reported on October 24, 2023, there were 4 new tires purchased for the Dodge at $210.00 each, and on December 5, 2025, there were 4 new tires purchased for the Dodge at $305.00 each. The old tires had 10,000 miles on them. The reimbursement contract for Tanner Smith will be tabled for now. The council is checking into liability for the Historical Society.
The regular council meeting adjourned at 8:19 p.m. Present were: Dave Clover, Jeff McDowell, Randy Shumaker, Todd Stevens, Jim Lenix, Treasurer-Monalisa Graves, City Clerk-Lucretia McPeak, and Mayor Katherine Hasten-Reed. Marvin Miller was absent.
