What a nostalgic evening downtown Stronghurst had Friday evening with families and friends enjoying an old fashioned holiday open house together, like none other.
I can't help but think of how much fun our grandparents had by staying close to church and community with activities such as these. In talking to a few members of the Prairieland Barbershop Chorus from Macomb, they were having as much fun as those who were listening to their wonderful music.
Everyone marveled at the outstanding displays at Bob's TV by Lorie (Hamilton) Taylor and Jim and Sammy Blender's gang at Bygones and Buds, and the wonderful old hardware building full of crafters and displays drawing lots of interest. Security Savings offering free carriage rides was a hit as all the spots were filled prior to the open house.
The beautiful music of Leo Ramer's group of Ecumenical singers gave everyone a good feeling of home plus lots of holiday inspiration. The food in all the businesses was of a wonderful variety, and already people are talking about next year's event.
The numerous displays of Nativity scenes at the American Legion Hall were all different from last year's, and so beautiful.
The Booster Club had appointed Jo Stull, Chairman of the Open House and of the upcoming 12th Annual Christmas Parade, at 3:00 P.M. Saturday December 11th, so mark your calendars.
Join La Harpe folks this Saturday, Nov. 27th for their annual La Harpe Christmas Open House with a 3:00 P.M. Christmas Parade. They will also have nativity scenes at the Masonic Hall east of the park by the Durham United Methodist Church and a Festival of Trees at the La Harpe United Methodist Church located behind the First State Bank.
Many businesses advertised refreshments - Little Bros., Clover Tire Shop, Rodeffer's FS, R & D Foods, The Quill and Time & Chime Jewelry and The Treasure Vault. The La Harpe Historical Society will be open as well.
As you gather for your thanksgiving feast this week, be sure to say a blessing for our neighbors, friends, and community in which we live. It is all those special people that make our hometowns a wonderful place to live.
