August - Vacation Time

I had to chuckle when I read that U.S. Senate hopeful Barack Obama (D-IL) spent his family vacation time on a bus trip through downstate Illinois campaigning. Now that's a vacation with a real history lesson for your kids, and hopefully Obama was able to spend some real quality time just with his wife and his children discussing it.

But, the fact of the matter is, we dream of good paying jobs, with all the benefits, summer vacations, and early retirement, but in America, we must sacrifice, too. There are no guarantees that things won't change, which means you might lose your job. Wal-Mart can push them out, Mom and Pop stores can change, businesses merge and move, and population can be cause for a change. Over the years our towns have changed but have survived. Learning a new occupation will continue to happen. Giving up vacations will, too. In America we will overcome because we have the freedom to do so, not because it is a perfect world.

Have you planned your vacation? Maybe you feel like I have since 9-11. There's no place like home.
