The 4th Annual Henderson County Relay for Life is this weekend at Union. Listen in to some of the reasons people say they attend:
"I could have easily passed as ill as I was with this disease, but I did not. And because I didn't then I want to make my life worthwhile. And this is one of the main reasons why I got involved with Relay For Life."
"You feel so helpless when cancer hits, that the Relay gives you a reason or some hope that we are going to make a difference, we are going to find a cure, we are going to find the answers."
"You think the Relay is just about getting money for an organization, but it is not, it is much more than that. It's a school, it's a university. It's a total experience."
"It makes us all feel full of hope. You walk up on the school campus and there are so many there that you know who have lost somebody they loved or have battled cancer and we don't feel so alone. "
"It's happy moments and sad moments and nobody out there is really caring about anything else but what's going on right there at the track."
"Relay for Life teaches my children that we the healthy have a responsibilty to help heal the sick."
"The survivor lap is really important because it's an honor to me to be out there with cancer survivors and cancer patients. That to me that's a real honor."
"The first survivor lap that I went on was real emotional for me. I cried most of the way around it. I didn't expect it to be that emotional, but it was. I think part of the reason is that people were cheering and clapping for us."
"It just lifted our spirits immediately. And we ran into people we knew, friends of ours that we found out were going through the same thing. And we didn't know that."
"I think the Relay is like a magnet. It draws people together. We are in this life together and you find it is about helping each other."
"It's twenty-four hours of your life, you stop everything you are doing, you stop thinking about the things you think you are going to have fun with, and you start thinking about something else, about fun, about happiness, about being together that is just incredible!"
These are some of the reasons you will be glad you have supported the Relay For Life.
The Relay will be the best twenty four hours of your life you have spent in some time.
You expect to go only to give....but you will find that you receive so much more.
See you at the Relay
