Legion Commander Gene Heap, Auxiliary President Elizabeth Rankin, and member Lois Campbell led a ceremony at the Henderson County American Legion Post 765 to honor our WW II veterans.
They stood among 36 older Americans who have been named "The Greatest Generation," in America, not only for their service to their country, but for the strength they had after they returned home to build a strong America.
Because so many served sixty years ago and gave up a secure home-life for a period of time (400,000 died) we were victorious in our fight to preserve a free America. It is a place where others around the world yearn to live.
Above, is a photo of a small segment of the new National WW II Memorial that was dedicated on Saturday.
I hope we each can take a moment to thank our local WW II veterans who served, and salute those who died to protect us and this great nation.
Our confidence lies in their service.
