Shutting the barn door...by Dessa Rodeffer, Quill Publisher
10 September 2003
You've heard of shutting the barn door after the cows have gotten out.
Well, it is a little late by then, but that is how we usually do it.
Last Friday night, when all the commotion was going on about an escapee running from police in the Hopper-Olena area, I did just that. I was running around locking doors but found he had already been caught earlier that evening.
Now what have we learned from this incident?
I remember having some Christmas presents stolen out of my car in Monmouth. I ran into a store for just a minute - so I didn't lock the car door.
Ever since that happened, I have locked my car doors when I have gotten out of a vehicle.
It is always a good idea to keep doors locked around your home and property, even when you are at home.
Now that there is 911, an emergency call is an easy call to make.
Also, if you see or hear something suspicious or things don't look right, have the police check it out. A little time may save lives or property damage.
