Keep Doors Lockedby Dessa Rodeffer, Publisher/Owner

Several incidents of break-ins around Terre Haute and in La Harpe remind us that even in small towns we should be aware, and keep the doors to our homes and vehicles locked.
Three cars were broken into around Terre Haute with the Henderson County Sheriff's office investigating. And in La Harpe, City Police Chief Jake Snelson is investigating a residential breakin and two car break-ins calling in the aide of the Illinois Crime Scene techs.
Stereo equipment and CDS and cassettes were reported taken from vehicles, and money and other items from a resident.
The front door was locked but the back door was not and is where the intruder made entrance according to police.
Of course, locked doors is no guarantee that a break-in or some damage won't happen but it might deter them or slow them down a bit.
The 3 Terre Haute incidents happened on Sunday night as did the La Harpe residential break in.
Snelson said a man awoke and thought he heard his wife, but found she was in bed. He got up to investigate and flipped on the light in time to see a man running from his kitchen into his garage and across the yard through some timber and a field and into a street near the football field. It was around 4:30 a.m.
In La Harpe Friday night, a stereo and CDs were taken from a vehicle. Saturday, a bunch of CDs were taken out of an unlocked pickup. Sunday night they had one pickup unlocked and stereo and cassette taken. A locked pickup was broken into but nothing taken. La Harpe had school vandalism Dec. 6th that is still waiting for results from the state lab before arrests can be made.
