1965 was a great year, mainly because I didn't have to stay up all night to work, but I could stay up all night to party with my girlfriends.
Pictured here are my classmates at a get-together at my parents home near graduation. Pam Waddell took the picture during a Hawaiian Luau she helped me arrange for all the girls in our class.
I mention this partly, because I was driving my new 1965 Chevrolet Impala Supersport Convertible which I had just bought at Fred Gibb Chevrolet through their salesman - Herby Fox. All the girls in my class loved it and we had a fun time piling in and taking a slow ride around Stronghurst the night of our party.
I didn't let much dust settle on this black beauty and I didn't keep it parked in the garage either - it was driven.
It seems that convertibles were more popular in the fifties than they are now, probably because we have gotten spoiled with air conditioning in about every business and home. Fred Gibb sold many sporty cars that appealed to my era. I am anxious to see the half hour documentary that salutes Gibb and his ZL-1s on channel 7-TV-Quincy on Nov. 29th (6:30pm). It will undoubtedly bring back memories that will strike a pleasant cord in many of us from that era. I wish I still had that car to take me back to some of those fun times.
