TAXES.. Do we need to pay them?

by Dessa Rodeffer, Publisher/Owner

It's that time of year again. Time for our second installment on our taxes.

It seems we don't mind paying for most things, but people grumble about paying taxes - some work hard in getting out of paying anything at all, and feel good about it.

We ask the government to do a lot for us - and it only seems right that we should give our fair share to the pot for the sake of America.

We need it to keep our roads patrolled, our community safe, our super highways built and maintained, our defense strong, and a million other causes that makes this country great.

I am not supporting high taxes, but I do feel it is a privilege and a responsibility to pay a percentage of what we make or have.

Education and Health Care are other important issues as well as good government to make the decisions on how to spend tax dollars.

As we get out the check book to pay our September installment, let's not grumble too much about sharing in the cost of one of the greatest nations in the world.

It's a privilege to be a part of anything great, but it always comes with a cost.

There are some great books that tell the cost people have paid for their freedom here in America, and it is far more than we are asked to give from our pocket books.

Yes, it is painful at times, but it is a good feeling afterwards to know we contributed to this great country, especially when we see so many volunteer firemen and emergency rescuers willing to give in so many other ways as well to better our towns.

We can't have nice things without paying the bills that come with them or eventually we lose them.

In these hard economic times, it is even more important we help our governments with our wallet and our service. They have a big job to do.

If we are concerned where the money is going, maybe we should be a part in the governing process, or at least vote to support those who are the most in line with how we would like to see our tax dollars spent.
