Sunday, Tom and Ellie Koopman invited me to join the "lunch bunch" while they celebrated a friend's 90th birthday what a neat occasion. Seven of us were in a van joined by six others at a restaurant to enjoy some wonderful time together.

Frances Schlereth, who was celebrating, asked me to mention in my editorial how much more women laugh in our country than they do in foreign countries. She said, "You know, I think it is because we are liberated!"

Boy, that made me think about how we take for granted things like celebrating birthdays even our victories in sports. If you are celebrating a special occasion today, thank a veteran!
