Feeling Good About Our Heritage

We have a very rich heritage and this week was full of signs emphasizing all the blessings God has showered on us in America and in our rural communities.

The celebration Saturday evening of the 100 years of fun at the Raritan Opera House was a fast-forward event of some wonderful times we've enjoyed together as a community. It was full of wholesome - clean fun of a time when respect for each other and our country was held in high regard.

Heritage Trails was full of parades, kids games, and meals that brought people together. Watching apple butter being made at Weirs, on an open fire, was an all day event as Curt Eisenmayer, his daughter Mary and two grandchildren demonstrated. After peeling 3 bushels of apples, it took five hours of cooking and stirring on the open fire. At South Henderson Church Monmouth College gave a service and told how the initial meeting on establishing a Presbyterian college was held there in 1852. Then the weekly letter from our soldier in Saudi Arabia came telling how much the symbol of our American heritage means as he unfurls it on foreign soil. It's priceless. Thank you to all who help us be mindful of our great heritage in America.
