Be An Angel Day

Did you know today, August 22nd, was officially "Be An Angel Day"?

I bet you didn't. I am hoping each of us can do an angel like thing in some way today.

Angels are seldom seen, but do acts of kindness and no one knows who did them.

If it has been a while since you have felt the presence of an angel, maybe they have done some things, but you've been too busy to notice.

There are angels in almost every work environment and every home that go unnoticed.

When we go to a restaurant, we usually tip the waitress or waiter extra for their outstanding service, but when our parents, family members, employees, or employer do some good deed, we usually take it for granted.

They may not need a financial tip, but a reward of a compliment or a thank you would is the least we could do.

To be an angel, you just might fly someplace with someone you want to make feel special. Why not try something different.

According to my Snoopy calendar, Sunday the 19th was National Aviation Day. Maybe that is the reason there are so many air shows around this time of year.

Coming up September 1st and 2nd from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. is the 15th annual MDA benefit R/C Air Show. It's the largest in the Tri-State region in nearby Taylor, Missouri.

Now, tha's someplace I bet you have never been. It's for a good cause. The MDA will be collecting donations at the front gate of $1.00 per person.

It will feature Radio Control helicopters, turbine & ducted fan jets, sport planes, warbirds, giant scale, multi-engines, and combat planes and expecting up to 150 pilots.

A Sunday 3:30 p.m. air war will see participants challenge each other by tying streamers to the tails of their aircraft and attempt to cut each others ribbons with the propeller of their airplane. It is sure to be full of exciting moments as up to 10 air crafts can be flown in this "air war". Taylor is just west of Quincy taking US 24 to US 61.

It seems unusual to me that Taylor has an airport but it only lists one hotel named the "Tic Toc Motel". The other hotels suggested are in Quincy, or in Hannibal or Palmyra, MO. Angels have lots of choices, but I think making it a "nice" surprise is the best part.

You may not want to go to Taylor, but you may just want to wash someone's windows, or fix a broken door, or attend a local school or civic event. The important thing is just to Be an Angel, for by being special in that way, you will also make someone else's day special in the progress.
