West Central Remains Undefeated in the LTC

The varsity girls basketball team picked up three more wins this past week and move to 9-0 in the Lincoln Trail Conference and 18-7 overall. On January 29th, ATown traveled to the Fire Pit to face the Heat in a regular season conference matchup. West Central maintained the lead going into half time, but let the Tornados slip ahead by one point at the third quarter mark. The two teams battled throughout the final eight minutes of the game with the Heat taking the win 59-53. Shelby Bowman scored 38 points, grabbed 6 rebounds, and had 4 assists and 2 steals. Sam Meyer had 10 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1 steal. Harlee Hainds scored 7 points, picked up 9 rebounds, and had 1 steal. Addie Seitz scored 2 points, had 5 rebounds, and 1 steal. Brooklyn Miller contributed 2 points and Miley Stimpson grabbed 2 rebounds. 

On January 31st, West Central hosted ROWVA-Williamsfield and walked away with another conference win 58-37. Shelby Bowman scored 26 points, had 4 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals. Harlee Hainds had 14 points, 8 rebounds, 4 steals, and 1 assist. Sam Meyer scored 6 points, and had 2 rebounds, 2 steals, and 1 assist. Addie Seitz had 6 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals. Lainey Klossing had 2 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists, and 3 steals. Brooklyn Miller had 2 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1 steal. Addy Burrell contributed 2 points. 

The next night West Central traveled to Warsaw to take on the West Hancock Titans. The Heat fell behind early, but despite being down 40-21 at half time, they battled all the way back to within one point at the end of the third quarter. They were unable to hold on and took the loss 72-66 at the final horn. Despite the loss, Shelby Bowman still had a successful night and scored a career-high 55 points, which is now also the school record. She also had 6 rebounds, 3 steals, and 1 assist. Harlee Hainds scored 7 points, grabbed 12 rebounds, and had 2 assists, 1 steal, and 1 block. Sam Meyer had 4 points, 5 rebounds, and 1 assist. Brooklyn Miller had 2 rebounds and 1 steal. Addie Seitz had 2 rebounds and 2 assists. Miley Stimpson had 2 assists and 1 steal. Grace Seitz contributed 1 assist. 

Rounding out the week, West Central picked up another big win against a tough Illini West team while celebrating their Seniors Saturday night. Prior to the varsity game, Brooklyn Miller, Sam Meyer, and Shelby Bowman were honored along with their families. All three of these seniors have played basketball for all four years while participating in many other activities and maintaining high academic standards. We thank these senior leaders for their contribution to West Central athletics. To make the senior night celebration even more memorable, Shelby Bowman surpassed a career total of 2500 points during the third quarter. She finished the game with 44 points, 9 rebounds, and 3 steals. Addie Seitz scored 14 points, picked up 8 rebounds, and had 1 steal. Miley Stimpson scored 2 points and grabbed 1 rebound and 1 steal. Sam Meyer chipped in 1 point, 7 rebounds, and 1 steal. Harlee Hainds had 6 rebounds, 7 assists, and 1 steal. Brooklyn Miller grabbed 3 rebounds.

Before beginning regional play on Monday, February 12th at Princeville, the Heat will face Ridgewood on the road and Knoxville at home for their final 2 regular season games. The final home game will be Wednesday the 7th with JV tip off at 6:00 and varsity to follow.
