La Harpe Council Meeting Approves Body Cameras and Tasers for Police Department.

By Michael Rodeffer, The Quill

Randy Shumaker was unanimously elected as Mayor Pro-tem in the absence of Mayor Kat Hasten Reed.

La Harpe Council met on April 8th at 7 p.m. at the City Hall. The council unanimously approved a 5 year contract with Axon for body cams and tasers for the Police department. Council approved paying a $6474.86 down payment with 5 yearly payments starting in August or September. Council wanted to make the down payment so part of the cost could be spent in the present budget.

Body cams are going to be State mandated on January 1st, 2025. It will take several months to receive the body cams once they are on order. Axon will provide training and equipment, and also will update body cams half way through the contract.

Dave Clover complimented police officer Scott Rosson on how he handled a recent problem at the apartment building (old nursing home). Clover stated Rosson handled the complaints very efficient and explained the situation to all that were involved.

City Spring Clean-up day will be May 10th.

Dave Clover stated that the city employees need to make sure any items purchased were billed to the City of La Harpe. Clover stated several bills have been going to the La Harpe Park Board.

Amanda Donaldson arrived at the meeting at 7:25 p.m.
