Meet Your Neighbor

Meet your neighbor and La Harpe School's new Superintendent/Principal Janet Gladu, who is buying a home in La Harpe and hoping to move around July 15th.

Janet was born in El Paso, Texas and has one sister who currently lives in Salt Lake City, Utah.

She has been married to her husband, Tim for 35 years. Tim is retired from the Air Force and has been a police officer for the last four years. They have three adult children and seven grandchildren.

Britni and Eric Hulser live in St. Louis, MO. Britni is an outpatient OB/GYN licensed clinical social worker. Eric works for REI outfitters. They have two children ages 3 and 1. Tyler and Stacey Gladu live in Oswego. Tyler is a cyber security specialist and works for Hub International. Stacey stays home with their two children ages 3 and 1. Ryan and Macy Gladu live in Navarre, Florida. Ryan is active duty Air Force. Macy stays home and home schools their three children ages 7, 6, and 3.

Janet’s parents, Charles and Norma George, are both deceased. Her mother died of breast cancer in 1991 and her father passed from a stroke in 2011. Her father spent most of his life as a journeyman electrician and built power plants.

Janet graduated in 1988 from Page High School, Page, Arizona. Tim and Janet were stationed in Germany right after high school. She started college in 1994, attending numerous colleges over her career as an educator. Her bachelor’s degree and one of her master’s degrees are from University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Janet’s superintendent and finance degrees are both from the University of Illinois, Springfield and her doctorate degree is from Andersonville Theological Seminary.

Prior to coming to La Harpe, she was a severe behavior disorder teacher in Las Vegas, Nevada for 4 years, Cahokia Unit School District for 4 years and William Holliday Middle School in Fairview Heights, Illinois for 1 year. She was the principal at Meredosia-Chambersburg Community Unit School District for 4 years before accepting her first superintendent position at Dongola Unit School District where she stayed for three years.

She served as the superintendent at Griggsville-Perry Community Unit School District for four years before going to San Jon Municipal School District in New Mexico for the last four years. Janet said, “We are excited to be back in Illinois and love La Harpe.”

Janet and Tim are very active in church and are looking forward to finding a new church family.

In her spare time Janet is an avid seamstress and photographer. As a family they enjoy spending time outdoors and love to hike, kayak, camp, travel, and spending time with the grandchildren.

For now they are focused on closing and moving in to their new home, but are looking forward to hosting the family Thanksgiving this year as it will be the first time in four years that they have all been together.
