The Wisdom of Barnyard Bruke: Track'n Mudd; Wisdom; Farmer Wisdom; Highly Educated Wisdom; Do Ya Know Yer Hymns

Greetings ta ever one in western Illinois and all readers of "The Quill".

Track'n Mudd

With all this rain and the fields be'n very muddy, they tell me tracks fer combine drive wheels is sell'n like hot cakes in certain parts of the country. There is a limited number available so's ta keep the price stable at around $70,000 per machine. They have the distinct advantage of once ya are stuck in the mudd with'em, ya don't have ta wonder what yer a gonna be do'n with the rest of the day. I do not know of any be'n sold in our part of the country however.

Some are sneak'n back inta their fields with duals on the combines, after each rain, but that effort don't last very long before the next rain comes along. Maybe by the time you are read'n this column, the weather will have straight'nd around fer a dry spell, relatively speak'n. That's what the weather man is predict'n anyways.

With the high flood waters of the rivers around here, some crops are under water. Those farmers in the southwest and south certainly know all about that. Those folk who have lost so much (homes, businesses, schools, infrastructure, loved ones, etc.) certainly need our prayers and help.

Speak'n of that, here is some "wisdom" ya might find enterest'n:

Wisdom

"Faith is not believing God can, it is knowing that God will."

Someone has written 10 rules to live by-

1. Prayer is not a "spare wheel" that you pull out when in trouble, but it is a "steering wheel" that directs the right path throughout the journey.

2. So why is a Car's WINDSHIELD so large and the Rear View Mirror so small? Because our PAST is not as important as our FUTURE. So, Look Ahead and Move on.

3. Friendship is like a BOOK. It takes a few minutes to burn, but it takes years to write.

4. All things in life are temporary. If going well, enjoy it, they will not last forever. If going wrong, don't worry, they can't last long either.

5. Old Friends are Gold! New Friends are Diamond! If you get a Diamond, don't forget the Gold! Because to hold a Diamond, you always need a Base of Gold!

6. Often when we lose hope and think this is the end, GOD smiles from above and says, "Relax, sweetheart, it's just a bend, not the end!"

7. When GOD solves your problems, you have faith in HIS abilities; when GOD doesn't solve your problems HE has faith in your abilities.

8. A blind person asked St. Anthony: "Can there be anything worse than losing eye sight?" He replied: "Yes, losing your vision!"

9. When you pray for others, God listens to you and blesses them, and sometimes, when you are safe and happy, remember that someone has prayed for you.

10. WORRYING does not take away tomorrow's TROUBLES, it takes away today's PEACE.

Farmer Wisdom

There ya have it then, from a spiritual stand point. Now here's some additional farmer's wisdom we all could think about liven' by:

Your fences need to be horse-high, pig-tight, and bull-strong.

Keep skunks and bankers at a distance.

Life is simpler when you plow around the stump.

A bumble bee is considerably faster than a John Deere tractor.

Words that soak into your ears are whispered... not yelled.

Meanness don't just happen overnight.

Forgive your enemies; it messes up their heads.

Don't corner something that you know is meaner than you.

It don't take a very big person to carry a grudge.

You cannot unsay a cruel word.

Every path has a few puddles.

When you wallow with pigs, expect to get dirty and look like an idiot.

The best sermons are lived, not preached.

Most of the stuff people worry about, ain't never gonna happen anyway.

Don't judge folks by their relatives

Remember that silence is sometimes the best answer.

Live a good and honorable life, then when you get older and think back, you'll enjoy it a second time.

Don't interfere with somethin' that ain't bothering you none.

Timin' has a lot to do with the outcome of a rain dance.

If you find ourself in a hole, the first thing to do is stop diggin'.

Sometimes you get, and sometimes you get got.

The biggest troublemaker you'll probably ever have to deal with, watches you from the mirror every mornin'.

Always drink upstream from the herd.

Good judgment comes from experience, and a lotta that comes from bad judgment.

Lettin' the cat outta the bag is a whole lot easier than puttin' it back in.

If you get to thinkin' you're a person of some influence, try orderin' somebody else's dog around.

Live simply, love generously, care deeply,

Speak kindly, and leave the rest to God.

Don't pick a fight with an old man. If he is too old to fight, he'll just kill you.

Highly Educated Wisdom

And now fer some "Highly Educated Wisdom":

(Dr. Thomas Sowell is an American intellectual giant. He is a Senior Fellow at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University. Born in NC, but raised in Harlem. Educated at Harvard, Columbia and Chicago. He is an economist who has taught at Cornell, Brandeis, The Urban Institution, UCLA and now at Stanford.)

People who enjoy meetings should not be in charge of anything. -Dr. Thomas Sowell

"The next time some academics tell you how important diversity is, ask how many conservatives there are in their sociology department.

-Dr. Thomas Sowell

Too much of what is called "education" is little more than an expensive isolation from reality. -Dr. Thomas Sowell

"The welfare state is the oldest con game in the world. First you take people's money away quietly and then you give some of it back to them flamboyantly." -Dr. Thomas Sowell

It is hard to imagine a more stupid or more dangerous way of making decisions than by putting those decisions in the hand of people who pay no price for being wrong.

"One of the consequences of such notions as "entitlements" is that people who have contributed noting to society feel that society owes them something, apparently just for being nice enough to grace us with their presence."

-Dr. Thomas Sowell

"I have never understood why it is "greed" to want to keep the money you've earned, but not greed to want to take somebody else's money"

-Dr. Thomas Sowell

"Much of the social history of the Western world, over the past three decades, has been a history of replacing what worked with what sounded good." -Dr. Thomas Sowell
