Sciota Christian Church Has Closed Its Doors

The final sermon was given on Sunday, September 28th, 2014 at the Sciota Christian Church by Pastor Gordon Blankenship to 286 followers. Blankenship, Pastor of the First Christian Church of Blandinsville filled in after Pastor of 7+ years, Lester Lock passed away in February 2013.

The church was founded in 1869 and moved to its present location in 1912. There have been approximately 25 different ministers over the years. The church was averaging 32 people per Sunday morning when it closed.

The church had a strong missions program, supporting over 10 missions and some for over 40 years. They also participated in the planting of several sister churches including the Maple Avenue Christian Church in Macomb. The Welsh family had 6 generations attend the church and the Hanson family had 5.

An auction of all possessions will be on Friday, October 31, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. All remaining funds, after everything is finalized, will be disbursed to their missions program (hopefully to support each mission for at least 2-years).

Sciota Christian Church closed because the leadership believed the money would be better used in the mission field rather than on the building that needed repairs likely to exceed six figures.
