Work Scheduled at La Harpe Intersections

On Monday, June 14th the La Harpe City Council met at 7:00 P.M. at City Hall. Eric Moe was present to discuss the La Harpe Intersection project.

The contract has been signed by the contractor and the state. The council will have a meeting with Midwest Bridge and Crane on Tuesday, June 17th at 4:30 at the City Hall.

Intersections to be worked on will be G street, 4th street and 5th street to the south.

There is no start date as of yet, but the completion date for the project is July 25th.

A resolution for Motor Fuel Tax was passed to pay $10,000 in engineering fees to McClure Engineering.

Krista Little was at the meeting to express her concern over the growing number of stray cats in her area of town and a neighbor south of her bringing in more trash on his property. The council will check with the city attorney on both of these matters.

The legislative committee met and discussed changes to the nuisance ordinance.

The changes and the ordinance were passed. The dirt pile and mulch pile at the cemetery will be moved as graves are getting closer to them.

Some mowing has been done on abandoned properties. The person who had the contract to mow the city park has canceled his contract. The city attorney will contact the next bidder.

The council has had calls about chickens being in town and someone wanting to get chickens. There is nothing in any of the city ordinances about having chickens in town.

Mayor Brown and Willo and Daniel Carpenter are working on finding a grant for the emergency siren.

The council will be looking into having the city hall building tuckpointed.

The Prevailing Wage Ordinance was passed.

Also passed was a change in the hours for the Class A liquor license holders. Casey's can now sell alcohol starting when they open at 5:00 a.m.

Tabled until the next meeting was an ordinance for the franchise gas company to sign a 50 year contract. The last time the contract was signed was 1965.

All council members were present with the exception of Josiah Neff. Also present at the meeting were guests Dan Gillett, Wayne Humphrey, Tim Graves, David Little, Krista Little, Eric Moe, Doug Endres and Christy Kienast.
