Meet Your Neighbor

Meet your neighbor Kayla Carnes of Blandinsville.

Kayla was born in Burlington, Iowa and was raised on a farm between Dallas City and La Harpe.

She is the daughter of Ed and Dixie Bollin of rural Dallas City. Ed is a farmer and Dixie was an aide at La Harpe Elementary School for 20 years; but now stays home to babysit her grandson 3 days a week.

Kayla married Willy Carnes, 32, who was raised in Blandinsville and is employed by the Village of Blandinsville. Kayla and Willy have one son, Tyson James, 2.

Kayla graduated from La Harpe High School in 2000, from Monmouth College in 2004 with a Bachelor' s Degree in Elementary Education and then from WIU in 2011 with a Master' s Degree in Elementary Education.

She currently teaches 3rd grade at West Central Elementary School in Biggsville, commencing her 6th year there. Kayla has also taught 5th grade at La Harpe for 1 year, 7th grade and was Pre-K Aide in Dallas City (3 years total).

She has 2 siblings, a brother, Scot Bollin, and his wife, Evelinm, who live in Monmouth. Scot works as a supervisor at Farmland. He has one daughter, Mackenzie Bollin (20), who is a student at Carl Sandburg College.

Kayla's sister, Marcie Gaylord, and her husband, Brian, live in Ft. Madison, IA. Marcie is the operator of Avis Rent A Car at the Burlington airport and Brian works for Rathbun Rural Water Association. They have 2 daughters, Whitney (21), who recently graduated from WIU and Payton (15), a sophomore at Fort Madison High School.

Kaylas' grandparents are all deceased. Carl and Ruth Bollin lived in rural Dallas City and Arnold and Zona Hobby lived in rural La Harpe.

She believes that graduating with her Master' s Degree in 2011 was a huge accomplishment for her. "It' s a feeling of pride in yourself and knowledge that I can work through difficult tasks!"

Her favorite vacation memories include going on vacation to the Lake of the Ozarks almost yearly since she was young.

Her childhood best friend, Tanya Blythe Mutton, would always go along and we had a great time. Now she is happy to be able to share that vacation with her husband and son!

She loves the atmosphere and people there and that week always goes way too quickly! Boating on the lake is always fun. They usually have friends that enjoy some of the vacation with them and that is always fun too.

I love spending my summers off relaxing and enjoying being a mommy!
