Meet Your Neighbor

Meet Your Neighbor Rick Bowlyou of rural Lomax.

Rick has been owner of Bowlyou Tax and Accounting in Carman for 10 years. He retired from the Rock Island Arsenal after 17 years of service as a millwright; planning and estimating.

He was born and raised in La Harpe, lived in Dallas City for 7 years and previously in Aledo.

In 1965 he attended Aledo High School and finished his education in the Navy. While in the Navy he was stationed, in Mayport, Florida on the air craft carrier USS Shangrala. While he was the Navy he served 2 tours of duty in the Mediterranean.

He received a degree from Carl Sandburg College, in Galesburg, in tool and dye design in 1979.

His father, Earl, is deceased and his mother, Helen lives in rural Lomax.

He has 4 brothers, Cary (Judy) who live in Pleasant Valley, Iowa. Cary is retired from Alcoa and Judy is semi-retired and works part-time at the post office; Charles (Sue) live at rural Lomax. Charles is a retired Navy chief and Sue is retired from Sears; Lynn (Linda) live in Aledo. Lynn is the owner of the Taste Freeze in Aledo and Linda is employed in Davenport, Iowa; Byron (Shelly) live in Chetak, Wisconsin. Byron is retired from the Rock Island Arsenal and Shelly is employed by the Chetak school system.

He is a member of the Carman United Methodist Church and involved with M.A.D. (Making a Difference) men's group.

He enjoys fishing in the Mississippi, carpentry and helping his brothers, Byron and Charles doing the mowing and upkeep of their 100 acres.

This is his busy time at the tax office as he is delivering and picking up payroll. He said, "I have 3 ladies employed in the office to help out during tax season."

When asked what he enjoyed most about life he said, "Being retired and not punching a time clock."
