La Harpe City Council Has Full House At Board Meeting

Christy Fox was present at the La Harpe City Council meeting Monday evening, Dec. 12th, to talk about her request to clean up, tile and add dirt to the ditch next to her property.

Mayor Ken Brown will have a look at it and will decide along with the help of city employees and council members, their best course of action.

All council members were present with a full house in the crowd. The treasurer's report and the minutes were accepted from the November meeting.

Police Chief Justin Livingston has had several inquiries on the sale of his squad car, the Chevrolet Impala squad car, he said.

The city is getting a new truck to replace the squad car which will be used for other purposes for the city as well.

He also asked about the replacement of the two part time police officers that the city is losing - Larry Finch and JD Hobby. Finch will be retiring and Hobby took a full time job in Hamilton.

The mayor turned it was turned over to the police committee to find a replacement for the two city deputies.

City Attorney Dick Rasmussen announced that the bids on the Johnson Farm ground were all raised except for a small tract down by Burnside that floods consistently. The overall raised 10-12% and they are locked in for another 3 years.

The council opened the bids for the cemetery and park mowing jobs.

Charles Halley of Halleys' Lawn Service was the winner of the park bid with a $1600.00 bid.

The lowest bid for the cemetery bid was Tony Freeman of Carthage of Natures Care Landscaping with a bid of $14,800.

City employee Tim Graves announced that the filter was replaced in the media at the water plant. The turbidity levels are lower. They are now checking on the price for the valve. It is worn out and needs replaced.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:40 p.m.
