When you are in a competition, which it seems, a lot of things we do are, you might say the odds that you will lose are greater than the odds you will win. So, you might say, "Why even do it?"

The lessons, I always find, is in giving it your best shot, and growing to be a better person in some way, because of the challenge.

It goes back further than Hannah Montana's song "The Climb," but back to the Oscar Hammerstein II's music written for "The Sound of Music, "Climb Every Mountain."

I hope the words inspire each candidate as well as each of us to live our life and each day to the fullest which may mean coming in, many times, at the back of the pack, but at least we enjoyed the adventure and grew from having experienced it.

From the Sound of Music, "Climb Every Mountain"

music by Rodgers and Hammerstein:

Climb every mountain, search high and low

Follow every byway, every path you know.

Climb every mountain, ford every stream,

Follow every rainbow, 'til you find your dream!

A dream that will need all the love you can give,

Every day of your life for as long as you live.

Climb every mountain, ford every stream,

Follow every rainbow, 'til you find your dream!
