La Harpe School Board Hears From Architect

At the January La Harpe Community School District #347 board meeting Tuesday January 19, Architect Bob Huff met with the board to provide information regarding demolition procedures for the 1928 building. He also gave updates on school construction funding, energy grant possibilities, and the need to have a specific plan in place should construction funding become available.

Superintendent Campbell led discussion abut FY2011 finances and planning to deal with the unknowns of the state budget. He will make available at the February meeting more information on short-term borrowing to assist in making future district financial decisions.

Board members were invited to attend a legislative forum in Mount Sterling on Monday, January 25, with state finances as the main discussion topic.

New transportation legislation was presented by Superintendent Campbell.

There is a policy committee meeting January 26, at 6:30 p.m. and the building committee will soon be meeting as well.

The December "09 minutes, the financial report and payment of bills were approved and the board accepted, with regrets, Carrie Faul's resignation from the position of girls' track coach.

President Cindy Wear, Mark Irish, Pam Campbell, Rex Huston, Deanna Stambaugh, and Darren Spangler were present along with Superintendent Jo Campbell, Principal Lila McKeown, Jeanne Clayton an visitor Bob Huff.

Principal McKeown praised music teacher Stephanie Mencel for outstanding school Christmas programs, mentioned the various other school Christmas activities enjoyed in December, and the recent training teachers have received.

McKeown reported that both the 7th and 8th grade basketball regional tournaments will be held in La Harpe, and the volleyball teams have begun their matches.

McKeown has scheduled 8th Grade Graduation for May 21 at 7:00 p.m.

The board also accepted the Race to the Top Grant Memorandum of Understanding signed by Superintendent Campbell, approved the first reading of policy updates as presented, moved to leave the closed session recodings sealed, and approved the deletion of closed session recoding made at least 18 months prior to the current meeting as per district policy 2:220.
