Retirement Surprise For A Soldier

On Nov 27, 2010 SFC Gary Jackson thought he was going out on a date with his wife Shana to a movie in Burlington.

He was asked by a friend of theirs if they could swing by the clubhouse to see her and her son because they were down for a family dinner before they headed out of town.

To Gary's surprise the clubhouse was filled with his loved ones and friends some lining up with flags and the song American Soldier playing in the background by Krazy Legz sound and Light to surprise and congratulate him on his 20 years in the Army. Gary will be officially retired Feb 1, 2011. His wife Shana and his mother in law Kay Olson had been planning this surprise since before Summer. Kay had stayed home from the Championship football game to get the food prepared for the event. Shana says she couldn't have done it with out her.

Roger Oliver of Macomb presented Gary with certificates from Senator John Sullivan and State Representative Rich Myers. Gary then thanked everyone for coming and said a little something to his loved ones.

His wife Shana, daughters Kayla Dickson and Savannah, mother in law Kay Olson, Dad Roger Jackson. His dad Roger gave the blessing and everyone then enjoyed a wonderful meal of BBQ Pork, chips, relish tray, potato salad, bake beans, and desserts.

Those serving were Tim Graves, Roger Oliver, Kay Olson, and Libby Olson. Rich and Becky Wilhite were host and hostess as people came in. There were a little over 100 people in attendance.

It was a fun filled night of visiting and a little dancing.

SOLDIER RECEIVES HIS FINAL SURPRISE (he hopes) from family and friends after his retirement from the U.S. Army this month. He is not just home for the holidays but this time for good as he finished 20 years serving his country which included several trips to the Middle East. Friends from the Honor Guard were at the clubhouse to honor him and help welcome him home....this time for good. Retiree is Gary Jackson.
