What Marty needs for flood relief

Last week we had a story about helping our county board chair Marty Lafary with his overwhelming job of taking care of the effects from the flood last June.

Many have called asking him what they could do specifically.

Marty explained that the number one thing he would like help with is contacting our elected officials and asking for help with offsetting the 25% cost share that FEMA says Henderson County is responsible for.

"We are on a 75%-25% cost share basis with FEMA," Marty said, "but in the last flood of "93, it was 100% covered."

"We have no idea what the final cost is going to be for our county, but any portion of it would be greatly appreciated," he added.

Marty is in hopes people will contact their representatives and elected officials and ask them to find the funds to help Henderson County. Down the road, he hopes to seek help for a 500 year levee, but he wants to take one hurdle at a time.
