Meet Your Neighbor

by Jenna Clayton Quill Reporter

Meet your neighbor Doug Jones. He is the son of Gerald and Pat Jones.

He was raised in Carthage, with his sister, Debbie and brother, Darrin.

He was raised helping out on a farm where he loved working the ground and watching seeds turn into towering corn stalks.

He planned on being a farmer but this changed when his family had to sell the farm when he was a senior in high school.

He graduated from Carthage High School in 1984 and went on to graduate from Western Illinois University in 1988 and later went back to Western to earn a degree in Education in 2003.

Jones is currently the math teacher for La Harpe Junior High where he teaches sixth through eighth graders.

He has previously taught reading, social studies, and technology classes at various schools before teaching at La Harpe.

Jones also has worked at Pioneer Lumber (now Homestead Lumber) in Carthage, and has worked at Wal-Mart and Jacks.

Jones is happily married to his wife, Tina, and they have three children, Cassie (17), Brittany (15), and Leanne (11).

He is interested in photography, loves reading, and in the summer likes to go water skiing and tubing.

He will never forget his daughters being born, "Seeing them for the first time, hearing them cry, changing their diapers-it is an experience that seems like it just happened yesterday. I wouldn't trade the memories I have of those times for anything" Jones explains.

Jones also gives the advice to all, "Be someone your mama would be proud of."
