Meet Your Neighbor

by Jenna Clayton, Quill Reporter

Meet your neighbor Byron Shaw. He was born and raised in La Harpe.

He is the son of Thomas and Elizabeth Shaw.

He was raised on a two hundred sixty-five acre farm near Colusa.

He helped milk by hand twenty to twenty-five milk cows, helped with the field work and harvest and also helped with the gardening.

He graduated from La Harpe High School in 1963 and from Burlington Business College in 1964.

Shaw is now married to his wife Diane. He has one daughter, three step-children and five grandchildren with two on the way.

He is retired but constantly stays busy with mowing almost three acres of land and maintaining two gardens.

He also is on the Harris Cemetery Board. He retired from G.E. in Burlington, Iowa where he worked for twenty-nine years.

Shaw enjoys gardening, fishing, helping with the harvest in the fall and watching Cardinal baseball.

He is blessed with the memory of being in the delivery room seeing his daughter Tiffany, "God's gift", as she was born.

He feels very blessed to have three wonderful step-children, Heather, Angie, and Christopher.

Shaw says, "The material things in life are not as important as the love of a wife and love of family and friends, and sharing the love of Jesus Christ with them."
