SMITH CREEK CONGREGATION: Dating from 1847 through the work of Rev. R.W.French the following persons were received as members: Ritchey Campbell, Mary Campbell, John W. Woods, Nancy Woods, David Irwin, Jane Irwin, Susanna Davis, James Gibson, Sarah Gibson, Mary Hogue, Isaac Woods and Elizabeth Woods. In 1849 Rev. Nathaniel McDowell, their first pastor, was employed and he preached at Olena and North Henderson in Mercer County for five years. For two years the group heard traveling missionaries and then in 1856 Rev. Elijah McCoy accepted the appointment as stated supply. (To be continued) 1911 History of Henderson County
