Scouts At Camp Chick-A-Game.

On April 27th the La Harpe Girl Scouts spent the weekend camping at Springlake at Camp Chick-A-Game.

The girls arrived at camp Friday about 3:00 p.m. Everyone went to work setting up tents and making their beds. After getting camp set up we had a short meeting on the rules for the weekend.

We made our Kapper Chart for the different jobs, then each girl designed her own drinking cup for the weekend.

We had some free time before supper so we explored the camp. It has a stone lodge with a big fire ring behind it, a trail through the timber and a bridge running from the lodge to the old bunk house.

After supper we had a fire and sat around it to play a game and roast our marshmallows for the smores. We had several raccoons come into camp to visit and try to steal our food.

After a good nights sleep we were ready for a full day of activities. We divided into teams and went on a color hike. The girls had to write down the different colors and what they saw. The team that won had 32 different colors and what they saw.

Then we made God's eye with sticks and yarn.

After lunch we had a scavenger hunt, then we learned about building fires. After that the girls got a partner and went out to find twigs and small sticks, then we headed for the big fire ring to see if they could build their own small fire and keep it going.

Then they each made a picture frame from sticks and each girl was given a picture of the group for their frame.

After foil dinners for supper, we sat around the camp fire, played a game and made banana boats for a snack, before heading to bed.

On Sunday after a good breakfast, everyone helped take the tents down and packed everything up.

We had a great weekend and are already planning another camping trip the weekend after Labor Day weekend.

The adults that spent the weekend with us were Kim Perry, Jeni Richardson, and Monalisa Graves. Beth Cortelyou joined us Saturday night.
