Meet Your Neighbor

by Susan Galbraith, The Quill

Meet your neighbor Susan Higgins from Biggsville, part owner of Western Illinois Title Company.

Susan does title insurance, property closings, property searches at the courthouse, and all those details that are associated with title companies, plus she does all the cooking, with the help of Rich Lutz, at the grill at the new Hotel Lynn in Biggsville.

Susan was born and raised near Gladstone at A & W Angus Farms.

She taught 8th grade science and health for thirteen years in Missouri, and 7 years at Union School at Biggsville. She graduated from Union High School in 1977 and from Northeast Missouri State University in Kirksville in 1981, now Truman State University.

She has 3 children, Stephanie (23) continues her education while working in an attorney's office in St. Louis, Missouri and volunteers her volleyball coaching abilities; Joshua (21) serving in the Air Force at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas and will graduate May 5 from basic training; qand Gretchen (13) a 7th grader at West Central who is her mom's best helper at Hotel Lynn.

Her dad is L.A. Anderson, a cattleman, and her mom, Jane, who taught at Union, died 5 years ago. She has one sister, Laura (husband Jeff), who lives in St. Louis, Missouri, with their three sons; and one brother Mark (wife Lori) who live in Knoxville, Iowa with their two daughters.

Susan enjoys the planning, preparing and cooking of meals at the hotel with the help of Rich Lutz and Gretchen. There are also many volunteers that help when needed.

She is part of a group of investors who bought Hotel Lynn on November 5th, which Susan remembers very well, as that is also her birthday.

The investors painted and decorated the hotel held their first open house by December 15. It has several delightful bedrooms and sitting rooms decorated with some original pieces of furniture.

Diversified groups enjoy the ambience of the hotel. She and Rich have cooked for as few as a party of 6 and as many as 120. An easy dinner, for her, is 40 people.

Besides her love of cooking, she actually said she "loves" working at the office or at home.

When she has any spare time she golfs, walks and reads.

One thing she does "not" enjoy is shopping, except that, is for groceries.
