West Central 6th Grade Splits with Dallas City

The Dallas City Bulldog's 6th grade baseball team hosted W.C. 6th grade with a double header on Saturday September 8th. W.C. took the first game 9-5 but dropped the second 13-5.

Game one kicked off at 10:00 a.m. for the first of two complete 6 inning games, a long day for the youngsters who have been used to playing an average of 3 innings following the 7th and 8th grade selected games throughout their season. Excitement and an abundant supply of determination reflected in the eleven boys who represented West Central as they wrapped up their first year of school baseball.

In the opener, winning pitcher Kevin Burgus turned in 4 innings allowing 3 runs on 0 hits, 3 walks while recording five strikeouts in the decision. Austin Meyer came in to close the final innings, giving up 2 runs on1 hit, 2 walks and collected 3 strikeouts. Meyer also paced the offense going 3 for 4 with 2 singles and a triple. Catcher Trey Goff added an RBI single, Devin Ketelsen singled to score Kevin Burgus and Joel Fryrear contributed a 2 RBI triple in the 5th frame to secure the lead for the Heat.

Notable RBI totals were posted by Meyer, Goff and Fryrear with two each and Ketelsen added one for the young W.C. team. Crossing the plate for W.C., Austin Meyer (3),Kevin Burgus (1), Trey Goff (1), Devin Ketelsen (1), Joel Fryrear (1), Kyler Engen (1), and Clayton Pullen (1).

W.C. line-up included the following players: Austin Meyer cf, p, Kevin Burgus p, 2b, Trey Goff c, Clayton Pullen 1b, Joel Fryrear 2b, Kyler Engen 3b, Devin Ketelsen, Zane Torrance lf, 1b, Brandon Seitz ss, Matt Bundy, Tanner McGeehon rf. Final score 9-5 WC on top.

West Central did not fare as well in the finale with Dallas City taking the win 13-5. W.C. was plagued by a Dallas City second inning charge giving up 6 runs allowing D.C. to grab a lead it would not relinquish. Pitching duties were shared by Trey Goff, Joel Fryrear and Austin Meyer. Joel Fryrear tallied 7 strikeouts in the contest.

W.C. struggled at the plate with just 3 hits on the afternoon. Singles were contributed by Kevin Burgus, Joel Fryrear, and Trey Goff . Goff added 3 RBIās. Scoring for W.C. : Meyer (2), Burgus (2), and Fryrear (1). Final Score 13-5 with Dallas City claiming the victory.

The W.C. 6th graders for worked hard this year and turned in a winning season.
