The Hancock-Henderson Quill, Inc.
To the Editor:
I was shocked to see the picture in the Quill, dated 9/14/05, of the little fifth and sixth grade boys playing football, and even first and second graders being coached as well.
I firmly believe that our tax dollars should be spent on education.
Who is paying for their uniforms? Whose idea was it to start them out so early; the boys themselves, the coaches or their parents?
I can almost see that they may lose interest in learning to read, and do math.
Who would want to think about that, when you can think about the next practice or the next game?
Not many will go on to play football after high school; but everyone needs spelling, math skills, and high marks to go to college, which almost all colleges look for.
I have exercised my right of free speech, and probably most people will disagree with me, and that is their right as well.

P.S. Also considering the rise in gas prices; who will pay for that? I would hope not West Central.
