Princeville Defeats the Heat

By Coach Will Bavery

The West Central Heat gave their fans who made the long trip to Princeville, a real treat for the first half of the game last Friday night.

The very good Princeville team and the Heat slugged it out toe to toe for the whole first half with the Heat taking an 8-6 lead into halftime on the strength of a beautiful 50 yard pass from Adam Corzatt to Andy Chockley. Chockley's catch was the type you see on NFL highlights. Darick Clark hit Chockley for the conversion pass.

On the way to Princeville we passed some really large fields of pumpkins. Maybe this was an omen that the Cinderella game was going to take place.

Halftime must have been the stroke of midnight as the Heat's strong defense turned into a pumpkin. Missed assignments and poor tackling turned the second half into a nightmare with Princeville scoring 29 unanswered points.

The team has continued to make progress, and we are very close to becoming a good football team. We must work on becoming a mentally tougher football team so that everyone executes their assignment on every play.

The difference between winning and losing football games usually comes down to about half a dozen plays. We are not to the point yet where we consistently make the play that is necessary. Hopefully we will continue to learn, and we will reach that plateau of excellence.

This week the Heat host Cambridge, another powerhouse football team. We hope to give our fans a complete game like we played in the first half against Princeville.
