Business Focus: Charlie's Small Engine Tune-up & Repair

by Melanie Sharpe-Lessen, Quill Reporter

Charlie Burr and his wife, of three years, Joyce, live at 602 East First Avenue in La Harpe.

Charlie runs his part-time business out of his shop next to his house. He has always naturally been Mr. Fix-it. As long as he can remember he has always been tinkering with motors and fixing things.

In 1996 he decided to turn his hobby into a bit of a side job.

As stated on his sign in his yard, Charlie works on primarily small engines; mowers, trimmers, and chainsaws to name a few.

He will turn away jobs that he does not have the equipment or expertise for.

His prices are fair and he enjoys helping out the town with whatever their mechanical problem may be. He stated that the town of La Harpe has been very good to him and he keeps quite busy, even though he has never advertised.

Although working on motors comes to Charlie naturally, he has also taken a small engine class at Carl Sandburg College and also a class at his previous job at Lawn Boys.

Charlie works full time at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant as a security officer. He works third shift.

So in turn, Charlie works his small engine business in the mornings every weekday from 9:30 a.m. to noon and as well as Saturday mornings. Customers are also encouraged to stop by or call. Charlie's phone number is: 217. 659. 3406.
