West Central School District #235 held a special meeting Thursday, October 20th, to discuss disciplinary action from an incident that occurred last Friday involving two of their students bringing soft pellet guns onto the campus.
The school officials initiated a lockdown until police had the incident under control.
After an executive session, board members voted in open session to approve motions that found both students had violated school rules and were therefore expelled.
The motions for each of the two students were similar:
Students "A & B" were found to have violated School Rules by being in possession and use of a look-alike gun while on school property on Friday, October 14, 2005.
"Possession and use of such a look-alike gun constitutes gross disobedience and misconduct under circumstances so related to the school program as to warrant discipline."
It was moved that both students be expelled from West Central high School for the remainder of the 2005-2006 school year.
It was also moved that the expulsion of both students be held in abeyance in order to allow the students to attend the Henderson County S.A.F.E. School.
"Students may apply for reinstatement to West Central High School in January 2006.
The decision to reinstate students will be based on each students' attendance, grades, and behavior while attending the S.A.F.E. School.
The two minors, age 15 and 16, were charged with aggravated battery, taken to court and put on home confinement until they appear in juvenile court this month. The incident involved BB pistols east of the West Central bus garage.
A person driving past West Central High School on US 34 last Friday morning phoned 911 on his cell and reported seeing two males shooting guns toward students on school property.
