Dear Editor,
Out Of Sight Out Of Mind
The nation has a motto "No Child Left Behind".
Union #115 had a motto "Children First".
I think West Central's motto is "Out of Sight Out of Mind".
This is the case with the pre-school. It was moved to Media because there wasn't enough space for them anywhere else.
It was accepted and made the best of. But when decisions are made that affect every student, by people whom have never even spent an hour, let alone a day at the school, it is time to take a hard look at our administration and school board.
There are a handful of students that are in need of a one on one aide and have been denied. These are children with special needs and circumstances, that without a caring individual to help them, they struggle with every day classroom issues.
Never seeing these children for even 5 minutes, they have made the decision that ultimately affects the whole class.
I think that before the school board and the superintendent make such a decision, they should spend the day at Media with an individual student and then make an informed decision on which one, if any of these children, deserve and need one on one care to help them succeed.
If it is a financial reason I think all would agree that we should put "Children First" before spending $30,000 on a temporary fix of an oder problem that has been here for years and is annoying but not harmful.
I believed that when I voted yes for the consolidation it was to improve the learning opportunities for our children.

"An Hourglass Glued to the Table:"
by Melanie Sharpe-Lessen, Quill Reporter
Why is it we never seem to have enough time? Some people do not have enough time and others are swimming in it, namely my daughter, or anyone under the age of 12. To her, waiting for Halloween seems to be taking forever.
We X off the days one at a time until that precious evening when she gets tons of candy for virtually no reason.
To me, however, how quickly time flies is still fascinating. I remember vividly, as a child, how slowly it passed, each week seeming like at least a month.
Every summer break stretching on and on. Now, every time I turn around, it's Friday. I think this quick time passage began with me when I graduated high school and progressively got faster through college and is now at warp speed now that I have children.
They always say that "time flies when you're having fun," but I don't think fun is always the culprit, I think its just that time flies when you're busy.
Right now I would love for time to slow down, so I could enjoy my "new" baby that is now 6 months old. I don't know when that happened. And my three year old that is 3 going on 30.
A song that is currently playing on the radio puts it fairly well: "Time's like an hourglass glued to the table, and no one can find the rewind button now:" Time cannot be stopped and is definitely a concept that is skewed by perspective.
Maybe one day, time will slow down, but I don't see it anywhere in the near future.
I'll just have to enjoy all the precious moments and all the things that make my life full and enjoy them fast.
I "m sure there are people that want time to go faster and life to be a little more full, so I will take the blessings that seem to make my life fly by and hold on.
