Moment In History

Civil War: 28th Illinois Infantry: Fort Gaines, Alabama was evacuated and the regiment moved up to Fort Blakely and then entered Mobile.

From there it marched to Whisler's station and skirmished with the enemy.

In July the regiment was sent to Brazos Santiago, Texas to join the army of observation under Gen. Weitzel and marched to Clarksville and then Brownsville where it was mustered out on March 16, 1866. It was disbanded in New Orleans.
