La Harpe X-tra Space to Build a New Building
John and Leila Link and Rick and Dianne Balmer own the La Harpe X-tra Space.
The group built their first building containing 14 units in the fall of 1993 at the corner of Clinton and 2nd Streets. By 1997, they had built two more12 unit buildings on North 6th Street.
They continually have a demand for more units, especially large ones, so they are now completing a fourth unit on North 6th Street. By the end of this month, the new space should be ready to rent.
Units can be rented for as short term as a month at rates starting as low as $30. Many of their renters have been with them for years. Those who have been renting a year at a time get the 12th month free.
Most of the renters are local people who need "X-tra Space" for everything from automobiles to family photos. The units range from 5x10 to 10x28 and the prices range from $30 - $60 per month.
The business requires some maintenance and bookkeeping, but it is a good companion to their other jobs and it has been a very positive experience for all of them.
