Ceremony Celebrates La Harpe Junior High Boys State Championship

Three o'clock on Saturday afternoon, a large group of family, friends, classmates, and fans filled the bleachers in the La Harpe High School gymnasium for a ceremony honoring the Junior High Baseball State Champions.

Everyone enjoyed a musical slideshow that was shown of the boy's final games. Coach McDowell gave a speech about the season and the boys commitment to hard work. Coach Porter also spoke eloquently of his boy's hard work and attitude the entire season and also his gratitude towards Coach McDowell's help this year.

Coach Porter called each player up to the podium and presented them with, a signed team ball, a trophy, and clippings of all area newspapers.

For every player, their female classmates sang an original cheer that they had made up for the final games. The entire crowd thoroughly enjoyed the creative cheers.

Coach also presented his batboys, that happen to be his sons, with a team ball as well. He then called up the captains to present two very special team balls to the members of the audience.

The first ball went to Aden Trout, who has been going through some rough medical problems as of late.

The second ball went to a tearful Clifford Rich, for his constant presence and support at the games.

Lisa Trout, who kept the books all year for the team, turned the microphone to the crowd for any comments they would like to make to the team, after her own tearful and sweet speech.

Many audience members participated with comments that ranged from proud to funny to tearful.

Overall, it was a great event for everyone that attended. Congratulations again, boys, we are all so proud to have you and your coaches in our community.
