Henderson County Sheriff Mark Lumbeck reports that the Henderson County Sheriff's Office and the Illinois State Police will be working together to apprehend drivers who unlawfully pass school buses, when buses are loading and unloading students in Henderson County.
Sheriff Lumbeck said that sheriff deputies started riding West Central school buses on September 4. Lumbeck said that his office receives complaints during the school year about drivers who disregard the stop arm on the buses.
Illinois State Troopers and Sheriff's Deputies will be sitting on the bus routes to ticket violators.
Lumbeck stated that a sheriff's deputy riding on the bus will call out a violator to an awaiting patrol car and a ticket will be issued to that violator.
Lumbeck stated that anyone convicted of, "unlawful passing a school bus', could receive a three month suspension on a first offense, and a one year suspension on a second offense.
Deputies will be riding West Central buses at both the north and south part of the county.
