The La Harpe High School volleyball season ended on October 27th after falling short to Carthage in the Regional championship game. The Eagles were the number 1 seed in their regional, and picked by the Peoria Journal Star to win it all, however a tough Carthage defense would prevail in the end, sending Carthage to the Sectional tournament in Bushnell.
In Regional action on Tuesday, October 25, the Eagles would face West Central for the 3rd time in the 2005 season. The Heat had easily defeated La Harpe in those match ups, once at the Carl Sandburg Tourney and during a regular season game. We were due! West Central was not prepared for the kind of game La Harpe came to play.
The Eagles took the lead in the first game and never looked back, outscoring their opponent 25-14. However, the Heat also meant business the second game and outlasted the Eagles, 27-25. Game 3 would determine who would advance to the Regional finals. Most of the final match was tied right up until the end. The score being 24-23 in favor of the Eagles when West Central served the ball, La Harpe got the perfect pass, followed by the perfect set, and ending the game, 25-23, with a kill from Carlie Wear. What a game! What a season!
The Eagles finish the 2005 season with 22 wins and 10 losses. First place at the Carl Sandburg Tournament, second place at the Unity Tournament, Fourth place at the Sherrard Tournament and a second place finish in the regional tournament.
Junior Carlie Wear was recognized on the all tournament team in every single tournament she participated in, while sophomore, Morgan Mohr, was also named to the all tournament team at Galesburg.
