The La Harpe School Board held a regular meeting Monday night, May 9th, in the School District Library.
The board voted to reinstate the following activities with funding assistance provided by the Athletic Booster's Club with procedures to be worked out between the booster's club committee, a board committee, and an administrator: JH volleyball, JH boy's and girl's basketball, JH boys' baseball, and JH boy's and girl's track.
Cindy Wear and R.D. Trout will represent the board.
Also reinstated were: JH Scholastic Bowl, JH Speech, JH Student Council, Freshman, Sophomore, Junior and Senior Class Sponsors, Marching/Pep Band with the help of the Music Booster's Club, HS Student Council, WYSE, and HS Scholastic Bowl.
School board members in attendance were Dan Horton, Barbara Cox, Ricky Johnson, Cindy Wear, Mark Irish, Larry Caston, and R.D. Trout.
Also present were Jo Campbell, Lila McKeown, Charlotte Davis, Pat Deitrich, Elaine Long from Carl Sandburg College, school board members from Carthage and West Prairie, and a large group of parents, students, and members of the La Harpe community.
Elaine Long room Carl Sandburg College passed out the May edition of the Envoy and pointed out several articles in it.
Bryant Fernetti spoke to the board in regard to the athletic coop.

Elementary/Junior High Principal Charlotte Davis reported that the Student Council is sponsoring a dance for junior high students on May 23rd.
Family Day was held on May 6th.
The K-3 students performed the Elephant's Child, a musical adaption by Rudyard Kipling.
Fourth graders performed on their recorder instruments.
The teachers had an open house prior to the program with student work on display.
Fifth grade had their rock show and the Junior High Science Fair was ready for viewing.
Mr. McKinnon grades the projects for assessment of the Illinois Learning Standards goals.
The music concert for 5-8 grades was Thursday evening, May 5th.
Kindegarten Orientation will be May 13th at 9:30 a.m.
Their track meet will be May 20th from 9-noon.
Eighth grade promotion will be May 20th at 7:00 p.m.
High School Principal Lila McKeown reported that the juniors completed the ACT/Prairie State Achievement test on April 27th and 28th at the Christian Church.
Child care classes have been doing observations in the elementary class rooms.
Prom was held on April 30th. Tyler Ferguson was the 2005 Prom King and Crystal Ryder was the 2005 Prom Queen
The Spring Music Concert was held on May 5th. Mrs. Mencel did an excellent job preparing the students. It was well attended.
Barbara Cox read the Ag Report prepared by Paul Mealiff. Three students competed in the Section XI Ag Mechanics CDE on April 13th at WIU. Travas Countryman placed 2nd in the Ag Power division and Genessa Cox and John Dowell each placed 3rd in the Welding and Electricity divisions.
The new chapter FFA officer for the 2005-06 school year are: President, Lacey Pence; Vice President, Jacob Markey; Secretary, Meranda Reed; Treasurer, Genessa Cox; Reporter, J.D. Hobby; and Sentinel, Justin Sparrow.
Ten members took part in the Section XI Trap Shoot on April 23rd.
They were Ted Geissler, Randy Bray, Skyler Pence, Travas Countryman, Mitch Worley, Cody McKeown, Jason Poulter, Dillon McKeown, Jacob Markey, and Jesse Palmer. They tied for 3rd with Warsaw.
Josh Belville, Alex Bundy, Tanieka Rodeffer, Megan Poulter, and Jacob Markey competed in the State Livestock Judging CDE at the new U of I Beef and Sheep complex on April 26th.
Over 50 members and advisors attended the Section XI FFA Banquet and Officer Election on May 3rd in La Harpe. Lacey Pence was elected Secretary for 2005-06. Retiring Section President, Anna Ziegler, conducted the meeting and election
The students in the Horticulture Class and FFA want to extend their appreciation to everyone in the community for their purchases at the plant and flower sale at the greenhouse.
The Illinois State FFA Convention will be held June 14-16 in Springfield and the IAVAT inservice workshops and teachers conference will be held on June 21-23, in Champaign.
The La Harpe Board of Education reconvened the meeting from Monday night, May 9th, on Tuesday night, May 10th, in the School District Library at 7:00 p.m.

The board voted to renew the 2 year athletic coop agreement with West Prairie School District.
The next meeting of the board will be June 13th.
