Mothers Day Will Benefit

Several Monmouth families are hosting a ball tournament this Sunday, Mothers Day, May 8th, to help with expenses of Bill and Jeanie Kane of rural Roseville, said their cousin, Art Kane President of The Raritan State Bank.

The Kane's 12 year old son, Nolan, a sixth grader at Roseville, was diagnosed with Leukemia on Palm Sunday, March 20th and flown to St. Jude's Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. . There he is undergoing chemotherapy and will be preparing for a bone marrow transplant, Art said. His brother Jackson was a perfect match and they hope to perform it sometime this summer.

The Kanes have four children: Nolan, Jackson, Drew, and Reese.

Their father farms in the Roseville, Raritan, and Stronghurst area with Ed Kane, and their mother, Jeanie was a Markham. Her parents are Mary & Dan Markham from Blandinsville.

The Kanes are members of St. Pat's Catholic Church where they have a continual prayer list. Those wishing to send Nolan a message you may contact him at http://www2.caringbridge.org/il/jeaniekane/. a website that keeps updates on his progress.

The latest news from the website was:

"Nolan Kane is a twelve-year-old boy from Roseville, Illinois, who was diagnosed with Acute Myelogenous Leukemia on March 21st, 2005. He is currently a patient of St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, undergoing chemotherapy treatment. Nolan has completed his second session of treatments and he has a very positive attitude thanks to the love and support of his family and friends.

Donations have been coming in from service organizations and individuals.

The Benefit tournament games for 11 and 12 year olds will be held all day Sunday at the Harmon Park in Monmouth from 10 am until 8 pm. The four teams involved are from Monmouth, Roseville and Biggsville.

Art said that the Raritan State Bank is also selling raffle tickets at a $1.00 a piece for a drawing for a IH pedal tractor that will be given away this weekend.

Art said that Nolan had missed a week of school and doctors were thinking it was Mono. His elevated blood levels caused concerned and he was sent from Macomb to Peoria and then aired to St. Judes in Tennessee. The family asks for you to keep Nolan in your prayers.

Well its a little late, so I'll keep it short. Nolan is doing well, just waiting till the next bone marrow test around the 14th of May. May have to get blood Wed or so. Seems so funny, how he's always getting blood. You would wonder where it all goes. They just keep giving him more every time his counts are down. It always perks him up and increases his energy.

I've been packing and am heading out on Tues. Back to Memphis. I don't look forward to those 8 hours of driving but the reward is Nolan's smiling face and the huge hug I always get from Bill. Love those guys more than I can even explain.

Thank you all who have donated to the bike-a-thon. We along with 1000s of other families know that the money is at work every day. Hugs to everyone!!!

Jeanie
